I remember constantly searching Google and Pinterest for things like how to have a productive morning and how to become a morning person, spending precious time going down a rabbit hole of tips and advice trying all the suggestions with little to no success.
It always had the same advice about getting up earlier (as if it’s that easy to leave my Purple Mattress in the morning), getting better sleep (hello, insomnia), and how all the most successful people in the world get up at the ass crack of dawn.
After trying all the things, I eventually came to the conclusion that I was just not a morning person. I even used to say it was in my DNA to be an evening person because my mom is a night owl.

I had given up on becoming a morning person..until I realized that in order to have any kind of real shot at being a morning person, I had to fix my biggest problem…NOT GETTING ANY SLEEP!
Did you know that 50-70 million US adults have a sleep disorder??
American Sleep Association
I have insomnia so getting a good night’s rest had been something I rarely experienced. I was tired ALL THE TIME. I woke up exhausted as if I had fought a battle to fall asleep and then woke up shortly after to start the fight all over again the next night.
Not getting enough sleep has a HUGE impact on your life.
According to Healthline, some of the effects of lack of sleep include:
Get Great Sleep
Finding a solution to my sleep problems did not come easy. I wish Googling ‘how to become a morning person’ prompted me to find a fix for my insomnia but it did not.
What prompted me to fix my sleep problems was falling asleep driving.
That scary wake-up call led me down a path to eventually becoming a morning person that is, not only productive as shit, but happy and less stressed in the morning.
Learn more about my journey from falling asleep driving on my way to work to using recreational cannabis in this podcast episode:
Getting enough sleep is essential to being a productive stoner and thanks to cannabis I’ve found an all-natural solution to my insomnia that doesn’t include sleeping pills anymore.
Trust me getting great sleep is essential to productivity; I was productive before but well-rested productivity hits differently. Take it from someone who has experience being on both the sleepy, foggy side and the rested, energized side!
Now that I get the best sleep, I am energized throughout my day rather than hopped up on caffeine. Yes, I do enjoy coffee (I’m becoming more of a coffee snob every day) but I don’t NEED it like I used to.
Coffee Side Bar: Have you tried coffee + cannabis? It’s like extra energy without the jitters!
Because sleep is so important and essential to your productivity, I’ve created a few resources:

Start Your Day with Self-Care
After consistently getting great sleep thanks to cannabis, I would love to tell you that getting out of bed got easier but it did not. I have an awesome Purple Mattress that is literally super comfy but I digress.
I love laying in bed especially after a good night’s rest but that doesn’t lead to productivity.
How productive can you possibly be laying in bed scrolling IG all morning? Not much!
So I had to incentivize myself to get my day started. How do you make yourself get out of bed?
Cannabis infused self-care.
Learn about the 5 major benefits of combining cannabis and self-care in this video! ⬇️
Starting my day with a wake ‘n bake and self-care is all the incentive I need to get my day started. I start my day by pouring into myself FIRST so that I can be productive.

You can’t pour from an empty cup sis!
Instead of jumping out of bed and rushing into work, I take time for myself to get my mind right. Your mind needs to be awake just as much as your body needs to be awake.
It’s not enough to jump up and feel ready to tackle the day. You have to pour into yourself so you’re ready to work!
Whether it’s 5 minutes of high meditation or an hour-long yoga class, you MUST add fuel to your tank in order to be productive.
We have to show up for so many people and accomplish so many things! In order to be productive, you have to show up for your MVP (that’s you!) FIRST.
Some ideas on self-care you can do in the morning to add fuel to your fire:

Meditation: One of my favorite things to do when I’m freshly high is meditate. It helps you focus and be in the present moment. Guided meditations on the Calm App are how I start my day!
Sex: Yes, sex counts as self-care, and yes adding cannabis can enhance sex! Here’s one of my most popular podcast episodes on ways you can use cannabis for great sex. (Infused lube exists peeps!)
Mindful Walking: When’s the last time you took a walk and actually enjoyed the scenery instead of constantly scrolling through your phone? There’s something about cannabis & nature that makes me feel so connected spiritually.

Create a Morning Routine
Once you’re out of bed, that’s when the fun starts so you’ll need a routine that you can do every day to stay consistent.
It’s not enough to just get good sleep and hope you remember to practice your cannabis-infused self-care before starting with work and your other responsibilities. You must have a routine you can follow so that you aren’t winging it every day.
Routines build consistency because they reduce the number of decisions you have to make each day.
Routines help boost productivity. According to Duke University, up to 40% of our behaviors on any given day are driven by habit. Knowing that, we must create habits that serve us rather than drain us.
In order to create the perfect morning routine that includes our favorite herb and you will actually want to stick to, I used these 4 simple steps. Listen to this podcast episode to learn those 4 simple steps to create your morning routine and what my morning self-care routine includes:

Conclusion
My journey to becoming a morning person has been a wild ride for sure. Once I implemented these awesome strategies, the game changed.
Now I wake up energized and well-rested, get out of bed (with a reasonable amount of lay-in-bed time 😉 ), pour into myself FIRST via self-care that features weed, and then go on to be a highly productive, highly functional stoner.
We’ve been fed the lies that stoners are lazy and unproductive but that is so false. A new study showed that cannabis users are literally the opposite of lazy.
Frequent cannabis users engaged in more physical activity than non-current users. Light cannabis users had greater odds of self-reporting physical activity compared to non-current users.
